Re: Graham Taylor dead
Scott Parker is your man for roundabouts.

With the benefit of hindsight his subbing of Lineker is certainly worth an honour.

Re: Graham Taylor dead Why no minutes silence?
Correction , Lineker had 48 goals .Charlton record holder at the time had 49 and Graham subbed Lineker in his last England match.

Comparing Taylor to Pulis and BFS is a bit ridiculous IMO but fair enough if you don't think he's worthy of any honours.

You could probably go down the entire list below and make an argument for most of them not being worthy of recognition.

If traffic systems are to be the honour of choice, Graham Taylor doesn't deserve a roundabout. Perhaps the M1 can be renamed after him? Roundabouts should be reserved for Mark Noble.

Re: Graham Taylor dead Why no minutes silence?
So the argument is that he deserved an OBE for steering Watford through three promotions?

I would have thought the Keys to the City of Watford would be about right. The Mayor makes a speech, cuts the ribbon to inaugurate the Graham Taylor Roundabout or whatever, job done.

But an OBE??

He subbed him in his last game when he was equal to Bobby Charltons goals record , he was fucking fuming

Reckon Graham Taylor was worth a Knighthood on that basis

Re: Graham Taylor dead
Dario Gradi got his for services to the paedophile industry, he employed known paedophiles when others wouldn't so providing a job to someone who otherwise would have been a social outcast.

Re: Graham Taylor dead
He ended Lineker career.

Deserved a Knighthood just for that.

That's not what he's suggesting, at all.

Are you seriously suggesting that OBEs should be awarded to football managers for just PARTICIPATING in football competitions?

Some moving tributes on 5 live

Anyone recall how the dutch beat us in the qualifiers and Koeman the dirty bastard stayed on the pitch when he pulled down in the penalty area and we should have hed a penalty for the same incident, the referee some years later admitted he bottled it as it was in Rottadam stadium ,That fucked us for 1994 world cup

So a man that managed two different clubs to second in the top division an FA cup final and took WATFORD into Europe, is worshipped by 3 different sets of club fans, set up one of the best football academies in the country and one of the best footballer commentators in an era of retards is shit because he didn't pick footballs greatest bottle job Chris Waddle? Absolutely superb work.

There is always one isnt there eh?

The man took a two bob club from Div 4 to Div 1 in the space of six seasons.
UEFA Cup
FA Cup Final
Runners up in the top division..second only to Liverpool.

I would say that is deserving of an OBE.

And some

Re: Graham Taylor dead
Ok let's assume that his spells in charge of Watford, Villa and Wolves were all examples of managerial excellence.

Now think of other British managers who have managed two or three clubs honourably, without winning any silverware. Pulis. Allardyce. Curbishley. Moyes. McLaren. I could go on.

Why haven't OBEs been awarded to these? And many others who have plied their trade in football management outside the top four?

Actually not even sure he won the title

Far

I seem to recall Taylor being booed and jeered by Villa fans at the end when he tried to speak to them with a microphone at the stadium (never a good idea).

Watford fans loved him, but winning the Second Division title doesn't earn you an OBE (thanks for the correction on which trinket it was).

How many other Second Division title winning managers have been awarded an OBE??

Good club manager but found the national team and setup difficult. As has been said he picked a lot of average players for England.
Underachieved there but the abuse of him was over the top and he turned out a decent pundit with a good sense of humour and clearly as a person he made time for people.
It does annoy me though we keep having minutes silence before games for everything from world atrocities to people unconnected to the club.

Re: Graham Taylor dead
Don't be a tool, Infidel. He was, generally, a very good manager.

Ask Watford fans what he meant to them, Better still watch Sky's Adam Leventhal (Watford fan) reporting his death.

You'd be better off sticking to the politics threads. Very few on here as clueless as you when it comes to talking football.
